Iran’s ‘Spotted Yellow’ wins at San Francisco filmfest

Iranian ‘Spotted Yellow’ wins award at the San Francisco Frozen Film Festival in the US.

Iranian short flick ‘Spotted Yellow’ has grabbed an award at the San Francisco Frozen Film Festival (SFFFF) in the US.

Directed by Baran Sarmad, the 12-minute flick took home the Best Short Film award of the American event.

The short film is about Roya, a girl who has a yellow spot on her face. One day she feels the signs of a real giraffe within and that is when her life starts to change little by little.

A tagline for ‘Spotted Yellow’ reads, “She sees her spots. She hears her voice and she feels her”.

According to Sarmad, the director of the flick, it is about a girl who has a dream and does whatever it takes to achieve this inner longing.

Shadi Karamroudi is the only actress of the flick.

The film got its first festival attendance at the 35th Tehran International Film Festival, where it won 1,300 dollars cash award.

It has also taken part in some other events, including the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland, the Palm Springs International Film Festival in the US, the Iranian Film Festival Cologne (Visions of Iran) in Germany, and the Corti a Ponte Film Festival in Italy.

The SFFFF is NGO that was established in 2006 with the aim of “creating avenues for independent filmmakers, youth, filmmakers of conscience, and artists from underserved communities to come together and exhibit their work to the widest possible audience”.

The 17th edition of the American event took place on July 12-16.
